Oregon's Omnivore's Dilemma
What is the Story with Food? Is it One I Want to Read?

The focus on food and farming issues begins with a City Club of Portland Friday Forum, facilitated by Deborah Kane, Vice President, Ecotrust Food & Farms. With Michael Pollan's definitive manifesto The Omnivore's Dilemma as a beacon, three panelists from the local food community will "deconstruct" a typical lunch prepared by their organization and take it back to the source. What was the meal? Where did it come from? Could you have sourced ingredients from Oregon? What did you discover about this meal's source that surprised you? Lessons learned during the assignment will provide a framework for discussion of the underlying issues that fuel the gathering debate on what we should eat and why.

Panelists will take a broad look at the role local (or non local as the case may be) farmers play in feeding Oregonians, with a special emphasis on getting local product to Oregonians. We'll look specifically at three distribution systems: public schools, retail grocery, and institutional food service.

At the City Club of Portland website, find the television and radio broadcasting schedules for Friday Forums, learn how to listen online, or reserve tickets to the Friday Forum if you are a member.
